To achieve the required strength values according to FKM, the SMS Group decided to treat the free surfaces of the bores extensively with our PIT process, thereby introducing high compressive residual stresses deep into the surface.<\/p><p>It\u2019s noteworthy that, despite a total area of over 8m\u00b2, SMS chose PIT over shot blasting.<\/p><\/p><\/div>\n                <\/div><div class=\"eael-accordion-list\">\n                <div id=\"sanierung-von-dampftrommeln-im-hkw-der-stadtwerke-mnchen\" class=\"elementor-tab-title eael-accordion-header\" tabindex=\"0\" data-tab=\"2\" aria-controls=\"elementor-tab-content-5072\"><span class=\"eael-advanced-accordion-icon-closed\"><i aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"fa-accordion-icon fas fa-plus\"><\/i><\/span><span class=\"eael-advanced-accordion-icon-opened\"><i aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"fa-accordion-icon fas fa-minus\"><\/i><\/span><span class=\"eael-accordion-tab-title\">Refurbishment of steam drums at the Munich City Utilities' CHP plant (Stadtwerke M\u00fcnchen)<\/span><i aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"fa-toggle fas fa-angle-right\"><\/i><\/div><div id=\"elementor-tab-content-5072\" class=\"eael-accordion-content clearfix\" data-tab=\"2\" aria-labelledby=\"sanierung-von-dampftrommeln-im-hkw-der-stadtwerke-mnchen\"><p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the steam drums of the heating plant at Stadtwerke M\u00fcnchen, despite professional repairs, cracks in the inner circumferential seams occurred repeatedly.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In May 2011, in cooperation with T\u00dcV S\u00fcd, the decision was made to treat the entire seam area including the heat-affected zone (HAZ) on two drums with PIT.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, due to the high operating temperatures exceeding 500\u00b0 C, we at PITEC were skeptical whether the introduced compressive residual stresses would be excessively reduced, potentially impacting a sustainable effect.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In February 2020, the PIT team learned that no new cracks have appeared in the PIT-treated area during regular inspections, even to date. <\/span><\/p><\/p><\/div>\n                <\/div><div class=\"eael-accordion-list\">\n                <div id=\"instandhaltung-arcelormittal\" class=\"elementor-tab-title eael-accordion-header\" tabindex=\"0\" data-tab=\"3\" aria-controls=\"elementor-tab-content-5073\"><span class=\"eael-advanced-accordion-icon-closed\"><i aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"fa-accordion-icon fas fa-plus\"><\/i><\/span><span class=\"eael-advanced-accordion-icon-opened\"><i aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"fa-accordion-icon fas fa-minus\"><\/i><\/span><span class=\"eael-accordion-tab-title\">Maintenance at ArcelorMittal<\/span><i aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"fa-toggle fas fa-angle-right\"><\/i><\/div><div id=\"elementor-tab-content-5073\" class=\"eael-accordion-content clearfix\" data-tab=\"3\" aria-labelledby=\"instandhaltung-arcelormittal\"><p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the ArcelorMittal plant in Ghent, Belgium, in 2012, 8,000 cracks were detected in the crane system area.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Through their R&amp;D project at their own institute, OCAS, they recognized in 2014, after conducting their own experiments, PIT as the most promising solution and implemented the process in the repair work.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p>Starting immediately, repair seams and yet undetected hot spots were proactively treated with PIT.<\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Five years later, in 2019, the number of detected cracks had dropped to only 700.
