ArcelorMittal Gent: Sustainably Reducing Fatigue Cracks

Using PIT to reduce around 8,000 detected cracks to only around 700

PIT as Part of Sustainable Maintenance

Around 8,000 detected cracks in the crane systems prompted ArcelorMittal Gent and the Belgian Welding Institute (BWI) to search for an effective method for sustainable repair and the prevention of fatigue cracks in 2012. As part of an R&D project conducted by its own research institute, OCAS, PIT was identified as the most promising solution.
